I’ll be the first one to tell you that this industry known as Network Marketing or MLM is not easy!  Once you commit to building a business in this medium you need to know a few things right off the bat.  Below I’ve listed six key tips to help you out, based on my personal experience over the last 2-years in this business.  Some of my advice may sound a bit harsh, but I’m only trying to save you from some of the traps and pit falls out there and get you started in the right direction.

 

#1.  You will be inundated with all kinds and types of offers telling you how to become a millionaire in 90 days…….IGNORE them!

#2. You need to find a good coach or mentor who has “been there and done that,” that person is worth their weight in Gold!

#3. Like any business, you will need a little starting capital (advertising budget) so you can purchase the proper tools and learn how to market yourself.

#4. Have a reasonable timeline in mind.  If you think you can make $10,000 per month after 90 days…let me show you the door right now and save both of us valuable time!  (It will take most people a couple of years to get established and learn the “tricks of the trade”)

#5. You will need to start a Blog or Website as this will serve as your “personal branding headquarters.” (Steve Hawk is a very good friend of mine and a Blogging Guru.  He will build you a Turn-Key Blog for VERY reasonable price.)

#6. You will definitely have to learn how to generate between 10-50 leads daily for your fledgling business.  Remember, with out a daily supply of quality leads you are going to struggle!

Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you off…BUT I want to paint a realistic picture for any of you who have big dreams and ambitions of making it in Network Marketing/MLM.  This is one of the easiest home based business opportunities to get into and one of the hardest to succeed in if you do not have the moxy to stick with it through the hard times.  In my 2 years Ive learned quite a bit.  The biggest complaint I hear from my downline is the sheer amount of get rich CRAP that is peddled in this industry!  If you start to believe all these rags to riches stories and buy into every snake oil salesman’s program, you will go BROKE and end up VERY frustrated!  I want to help you AVOID these traps and hopefully get you started off on the right track.

Once you have decided on your primary MLM company, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work.  Most MLM companies will teach you to go immediately after your “warm market” (your friends and family).  Your upline will also teach you to hold home meetings, set up promo booths at local shopping malls and even paint your personal car with company promo verbage.  All of these strategies have their place if you choose to go through all the work.  I’ve found a much easier way to expose your opportunity to millions of people and personally brand yourself so that you become the “authority” with whatever company your promoting.

Attraction Marketing is key.  You will want to “attract” people to you and what your offering.  Once you build rapport with these people and they grow to know, like and trust you, 90% of the battle is won!  This doesn’t happen overnight or even in a few months.  It takes time and a lot of patience to build a large list of people who follow your advice and trust you enough to invest in you and your business.  You will also need a constant way to stay in front of these people on your list.  There are many different types of “Auto-Responders” available that allow you to send out a series of follow-up messages over a specified date range that contain more information about you and your offers.

Affiliate Marketing is also key.  As you are building your list of devoted followers, you will want to offer these people a ton of value (free advice like this article your reading) as well as valuable Affiliate Marketing Programs.  These programs are the “tool’s” you will need to help build your lead lists as well as branding you as the go-to expert.  I personally use a few key affiliate programs in my business that have helped my team tremendously and allowed both me and my team to profit from people signing up.  Affiliate Marketing is a great way to help others and get paid while doing so!  The other benefit is that even if your leads do not immediately sign up for your primary MLM business, you still make money when they purchase the Affiliate Program Tools you are offering.

This is a quick guide to Common Sense Network Marketing and I hope it gives you some insight into starting and running a Network Marketing/MLM business.  There are no get rich quick schemes out there folks and the snake oil salesman that prey on the unsuspecting are unfortunately out there!  Do not let yourself fall into the endless trap of purchasing the next “I’ll show you how to make $10k per month in 90 days” crap.  Look at this as you would any business venture.  Hard work, invest money into the proper tools and have a ton of patience!  If you stick with it and follow a game plan you will succeed and achieve your goals and dreams.
